Peanut Chutney for Idli and Dosa

pinit

Peanut chutney is a classic accompaniment for Indian staples like Idli and Dosa. Dosa being a favourite breakfast dish at home, it is made at least once a week. In search of healthy, protein rich breakfast options, dosa cannot be avoided. So adding peanut chutney is the best option I found.

It is protein rich becuase of the peanuts and sesame. It also has a balanced heat by using both regular dried chillies and Kashmiri red chillies. It is also creamy without using coconut and can be whipped up using pantry staples.

How to make peanut chutney in 3 steps?

  1. Roast peanuts, bengal gram, sesame and chillies.
  2. Grind along with the rest of the ingredients.
  3. Temper mustard seeds, chilli and curry leaves and pour over the chutney.

What to serve with?

This creamy, nutty and slightly spicy peanut chutney pairs well with dosa, idli, medu vada amongst others. Spread inside a dosa roll with a little gun powder or podi. It can also be spread over uthappam or used as a dip for air fried sweet potatoes. Pairs well with roti also.
